Itza
White, tan & black
5840
ITZA takes its name from the Mayan temples at Chichen Itza on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, the same source as Fortuny's ITZINA, but expressed in a distinct geometric register. Where ITZINA builds its step-pyramid logic into a large, architecturally dense repeat, ITZA distills it into a stepped diagonal that carries both Mesoamerican structure and the visual momentum of a chevron. Each of the temple's four sides has 91 stairs; combined with the platform on top, the total is 365, the completeness of the year encoded in the count of steps. ITZA carries that numerical precision into its repeat: deliberate, measured, and directional. The stepped geometry makes it particularly effective on drapery where the diagonal movement follows the fabric's hang, and on upholstery where the compressed repeat creates rhythmic visual energy.
